Yokai Monthly Limited Edition October 2024
Yokai Monthly Limited Edition October 2024

October’s Limited Edition is a bit of a departure colour and theme wise for me; these are Yokai! Often mistakenly translated as ‘Demon’ in Japanese, Yokai are spirits in Japanese folklore, which can be positive too (see picture two).

I wanted a nod to October and the spooky nature of this season with an autumnal colour scheme ready for the leaves turning and cosier evenings. I’ll be honest, there was another batch of these, but when I opened the kiln the colour scheme was a washed out skin coloured disaster. So I guess they were a bunch of mischievous Yokai, I’m still pondering what to do with them! These ones however are friendly and won’t cause you much bother at all. I can’t possibly look after them all though so if you’d like to adopt these little spirit infused earrings I’d be very grateful. They may even bring you some good luck! All I ask is they are adopted in pairs so they aren’t lonely. The base is a discontinued Vetrofond glass called Wasabi, they all have a black streak which has been heated ferociously until it splits and crazes in its own unique spirit pattern. There is a dot of terracotta to finish the design.

Over the next year (and hopefully longer) there will be a new mini stud design limited to 25 pairs released each month. Once they are sold out I’ll keep them on a monthly archive page so we can all look back through them. I’ll mark the card on the back which number of 25 you have and the date, and they can be collected month by month if you so wish!

Made in a torch flame and carefully annealed in a kiln overnight to prevent any breakages these earrings would be perfect to complement an outfit or as a little gift to someone. The backs are Surgical Steel, a completely safe and hypo-allergenic metal. The steel backs are fused into the glass while it is still hot, so no glue is needed.

As they are handmade, the size of glass varies between 5 and 7mm, but is consistent within the pairs.

They were made by me, in my studio in Edinburgh, Scotland

I am happy to ship worldwide, although please bear in mind shipping outside of the UK can take up to 3 weeks.
